Ah, the day of love… doesn’t it just give you all the warm and fuzzies and make your heart want to explode (I mean, for one reason or another…)? I think no matter what your relationship status is you can make Valentine’s Day feel special and fun!
If you follow me on Instagram you might know that I am the other half of a long distance relationship duo. I’m talking 6,000 miles and 9 hours long. No lie, it is difficult, but something in my heart tells me it’s worth it. It’s special days like these that make the everyday struggle extra hard. Something so simple as cooking dinner, holding hands or Netflix and chill is never on the agenda, and it just. plain. sucks.
I could sit, sulk and cry BUT you know what – whatever! Instead I’ll share a few little ideas with you on how I made the most of Valentine’s Day solo.
- I personally love surprises in the mail so I picked up Valentine’s cards to send to my mom, dad and sister all the way in Arizona. A sweet note is a small way to send your love from afar 🙂
- Everyone needs a midday treat so I baked mini heart shaped Brown Sugar-Cinnamon Pop Tarts (from scratch) for my coworkers to show my appreciation for them – find the recipe here.
- Spent some quality time with my GALentine for a little mani/pedi action – I went ultra pink with “boom boom room” by Essie! After nails we shared some nachos at this adorable little place called Bonita in the Marina. The patio ambiance was perfect! We felt like we were transported to Mexico, it was so fun!
- In the evening instead of hitting the town I drew a bath, read my favorite book, poured myself a big glass of wine and turned on some Chelsea Does (Chelsea Handler’s new docuseries – it’s not what you’re thinking…).
What I realized is sometimes it’s so nice to have some alone time to reconnect with just yourself!
…And lucky me, in the morning I woke to sweet messages and a call from my sweetie <3 Definitely feeling the love!
How did you celebrate Valentine’s Day? A night in with your man or a night out with your girls? I’d love to hear all about it – share with me in the comments below!
